General Mandarin Course for Adults: From Beginner to Fluent

This course is not only focusing on Mandarin listening and speaking skills, but also reading and writing.

If you’ve been being trying hard and following our instructions, but still can’t master the material for a particular class, don’t worry! If you’re in that situation, you can retake that group class free of charge!

At TCA you build all four Mandarin skills, speaking, listening, reading and writing, through a step-by-step curriculum from beginner to advanced:

• Pronunciation and pinyin: tones and sounds from your first lesson
• Everyday conversation: greetings, shopping, travel, work and social situations
• Grammar and sentence patterns: practiced in real-life contexts
• Chinese characters: reading and writing simplified characters
• Advanced skills: reading Chinese newspapers, discussing current affairs, and formal written Chinese

Our teaching materials are developed in-house specifically for adult part-time learners in North America. Most other textbooks are designed for full-time students studying in China, but ours fit a busy schedule and build real progress outside an immersion environment.

You can learn with TCA in three ways, or combine them:

1. In person: attend classes at one of our three centres in the Greater Toronto Area:

2. Online: take live classes with our teachers from anywhere, using Microsoft Teams.

3. Guided self-study: study on our website with professional guidance from our teachers.

It depends on the class type you choose. All three are available in person or online:

• Group classes: up to 5 students, 1.5 hours per class. Small groups mean more attention from your teacher and more chances to practice speaking.

• Semi-private classes: up to 2 students, 1 hour per class.

• Private classes: 1 student, 1 hour per class, with the most flexible schedule.

All prices are in CAD and subject to 13% HST

All course materials are included. TCA's own textbooks and learning materials, developed from years of teaching adult learners, come with every package at no extra cost.

Group Classes

Group classes cost $279 per package, which includes 6 lessons. Each lesson lasts 1.5 hours.

• One class per week: Complete the package in 6 weeks.
• Two classes per week: Complete the package in 3 weeks.

Semi-Private Classes

Semi-private classes cost $441 per student per package, which includes 9 one-hour lessons ($49 per hour). With one lesson per week, you can complete the package in 9 weeks (approximately 2 months).

Private Classes

Private classes cost $621 per package, which includes 9 lessons. With one lesson per week, you can complete the package in 9 weeks (approximately 2 months).
